Chris Diaz

Chris Diaz is the President CIM East Africa and Group Director for BIDCO –Africa Markets.

He was one of the first fellows (FCIM) in East Africa, holds a Chartered Fellow status, B.com(HONs), Diploma in CIM, a Masters of Science in Marketing (UK). He was awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC) by the President of Kenya and Warriors Award by the Marketing Society of Kenya.

Chris has served in the CIM UK organization on many roles and most recently on the International Membership Board. He has presented talks in Africa and Europe on the best Marketing practice, attended the European Marketing conferences and Africa Marketing summits. He also serves and holds gazette appointments in several leading board roles, and a mentor to many marketers contributing to the growth of high quality Marketing standards globally.

Personal Statement:

He has been the Honorary Treasurer of CIM Kenya Branch for the last 3 years and was instrumental in developing the Branch’s 3 year strategic plan that ended in June 2010. He is an experienced Marketing Professional having been involved in marketing strategy development, new products development, market development, and market research for leading organisations in FMCG, social marketing, reproductive health and financial services sectors.

Personal Statement:

I have over 14 years experience in sales and marketing with over four years as a chartered marketer. My background is in science having studied for a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Mathematics. Currently I am working towards attaining a Masters in Business Administration from University of Leicester with a specialization in strategic human resource management.My experience as a group product manager for various brands, coupled with responsibilities for corporate PR and communications puts me in a very solid place to lead the prestigious Chartered Institute of Marketing Kenya chapter and continue the pace set to be the indisputable institution for marketing in this country.

Personal Statement:The profession of marketing is probably one of those that is the most exciting. Where else would you get the opportunity to change so much about a product, a brand, a service, a perception, even a person. These are transformational times that marketers should be very proud to be part of and it is my vision to inspire the profession of marketing within Kenya and the larger East Africa region to be the very best it has ever been. I would wish to see world class marketers, coming together in a strong and determined fashion, being the guides and the shining examples for the future generations to take up this profession. I would like to see how we can encourage use of social media platforms by a wider population; encourage the study of marketing to achieve professional qualifications. I am a strong advocate for professional development for if we do not continuously learn, we die. I would like to lead all marketers across the region and promote great marketing ideas, marketing ethics and above all, a passion for marketing.

Edna Kimurwa

Position: Hon. Secretary

Personal Statement:

I have vast experience in Sales and Marketing, Business development and Telecommunications Engineering. My experience spans 16 years in the Communications industry across Africa. I am currently undertaking my MBA with the Edinburg Business School. I have a BSc in Information Systems and Technology and also professional Chartered Marketers qualifications. In addition I also underwent a Engineering course at the Kenya College of Communications Technology.

Personal Statement: I have a passion for Marketing and would like to grow the relevance of Marketing in Government, private sector and non for profit organisations. I would like to see CIM partner with Member to nature a generation of Marketer who will move this country to being a world power.

Michael Owino


Position: Training

Personal Statement:

A marketing and communications professional with over 6 years experience at Behaviour change communication, Brand Management of fast moving commercial goods (FMCG) and Project Management. Early in my career at PSI, I cut my teeth planning and coordinating promotional events for PSI’s brands in provinces all over the country. These include the Trust® Wakilisha concerts and cycling challenges as well as the Supanet® water festivals. I hold of a B.com degree from the University of Nairobi, specializing in Management Science and a post graduate diploma in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Personal Statement: I am a marketing and communications professional with over 5 years experience at Behaviour change communication, Brand Management of fast moving commercial goods (FMCG) Interpersonal communication and training. Early in my career, I cut my as a trainer for as the Chief trainer, for the leading peer education program in Kenyan universities. This gave me firsthand experience at transformational experiential training, and a passion for working with people.

I bring to the table, the skills needed to promote the art of marketing and contribute to the administration of branch education and training programs. My experience working in Local universities places me in a great position to act as a link between the branch and student bodies in local universities, in raising the profile of CIM as a professional marketing course in Kenya.

I hold of a B.com degree from the University of Nairobi, specialised in Management Science and a Professional Post Graduate Diploma in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. While a studying CIM member, I was awarded two top student awards for being: Top overall student Professional Post Graduate Diploma in marketing 2008-2009 and Top overall student Marketing Management in practice 2008-2009. At the moment I’m completing my executive MBA from JKUAT


Jacquie Muhati

Position: Marketing

Personal Statement:

Successful in developing and implementing strategies, combining years of handson experience in different market sectors. Proven ability to deliver high-quality strategies, which fully support organization’s growth objectives.

  • Research Interests: The economic restructuring potential presented by upcoming sectors like tourism, STI, BPO within developing nations.

I started my career as a marketing assistant with (ICM) now Marcus Evans Group and in my duties went beyond my job description and everyday work requirement in order to learn wide and keep abreast of the dynamic market. My eagerness to learn coupled with excellent performance got me a promotion within 2 months to a marketing manager position. Within my 8 years in the company, I grew in my roles to senior manager overseeing marketing in Europe & North America as detailed in my CV. In my 8 years at Marcus Evans, I was ranked the top group-marketing manager 4 times based on my individual and departments revenue. In my most recent roles at Africa investor and Brand Kenya, I was presented with a challenging opportunity for professional development to develop my career in Africa. This fitted with my professional goal, which is to expand my understanding of the global markets and examine issues and events from an interdependent and international perspective to enable me to achieve the business objectives. I have published academic papers and co-authored a book amongst other little accomplishments.

Personal Statement: I have been fortunate to have a multi-country education and work in a large multinational in the UK for 9 years SA for 2 years and Kenya for 1 year. From these experiences, I have gained the ability to think critically and the ability to work within teams in different dynamics. This coupled with the professional environment that I have worked in, have provided me with an insight of how to work at very high international standards in a very professional and rigorous manner.

There are skills that I have carried with me and standards that I have been exposed to that I strive to maintain. The more exposed to different experiences, opportunities, and insights one is, the richer and influential they become as an individual in terms of influencing change and being effective. Personal Statement:

Currently studing for Masters in organisational leadership. I am a Bachalors of Edcation (Special Education & Mathematics), a Professional Diploma in Marketing, Diploam in PR from ICM (UK) graduate. I am also a Chartered Marketer.

Personal Statement: He has been involved actively in the Marketing and Media industry and has gained immense knowledge and understanding of current trends in the Industry. He is a member of the leadership forum, a partnership between the British Council and a network of managers and other professionals who are interested in improving their leadership and management competencies and practices.

Eric Muthuuri

Position: Events

Personal Statement:

I am currently the Terminals Manager at Safaricom reporting to the General Manager – Consumer Business which involves development and management of the terminals strategy for the company. My role has a major marketing element in regard to device launches and campaigns as well as sell out events and activities to ensure there is awareness and sell out of the devices. My experience in distribution and account management extends over 5 years. I have held various positions at Safaricom as Dealer sales Manager, Area Sales Manager, Ag Regional Sales Manager and National Dealer Manager at Telkom Kenya-Orange. All these roles involved strategy development in ensuring numerical distribution increased and events and sales activities were are key element in my successes in my roles.

Personal statement: The Chartered Institute of Marketing is an institution that certifies the marketing profession and I would like to bring out the benefits and value of being a member of the chartered institute of marketing and the value of pursuing the courses provided by CIM. The private and public sector can benefit greatly from the skill set and vision CIM has and the best way of passing this on is by having events that will bring this out in strongly through the integrated marketing communication that is used to communicate what CIM is about, of which events is a important part. My role and vision is to build on what has been established and to use my experience and knowledge to make CIMs vision known across the public and private sector through events done directly by CIM Kenya as well as work in partnership with key stakeholders in both sectors.
